Mac Pro running loud, hmmm?

So, its been awhile since I've had any problem with any of my Apple products.

And a few months ago I bought a pretty decked out sexy Mac Pro, and hooked it up to a decent Dell 4K monitor, can't be more happy with it. Its a great machine.


But lately, the past few days, the temps are completely normal. But the Mac Pro seems like its kinda loud, not as loud as my decked out Windows gaming PC, but its noticeable for sure, and its never done this before.

Its almost like the fan is running at top speed all the time, I checked the temps, they are normal, and I blew compressed air into the center to get out any dust that might be trapped in the bottom of it.

Still, the fan won't slow down or quiet down.

Firmware problem maybe?

It just seems like something so new, shouldn't have a problem after 4 months of ownership.

Even gaming PCs I've built myself in the late 90s are still running to this day with a new CMOS battery, no issues.

Why should my expensive mac pro have an issue.

Do you think that might fix it? The fans never slow down, ever. Its annoying. Other than that, its a great machine.

According to Apple's website (my link in the last post), that fit the description about when should perform a SMC reset.

It's more like a software issue rather than hardware issue. Therefore, it could happen on a 4 years old machine or a 4 days old Mac.

Just simply unplug the power, wait for 15 seconds, plug it back, wait for another 5 second. Nothing will hurt, why not give it a try?

Yeah Ive done that, I wonder if I should just move all my data to my IBM rack sever ( I have two Power 7 machines at home in a mostly open rack ), and reinstall everything from factory? It never used to do this.

I occasionally have the fan problem on my old Mac Pro (e.g. after installing some new hardware), usually PRAM + SMC reset can completely fix the problem.

Sometime I don't even need to do that. I may simply manually set the fan to max speed (e.g. by SMCFanControl), and then turn it back to auto. Then the fan will back to it's normal speed with automatically fan control in few minutes.

I had an old Mac Pro as well, which liked to get pretty loud from time to time.

My Alienware gets pretty loud but its a super high performance gaming PC laptop, I expect that.

I don't expect it from a Mac Pro, new or old.

What I did, is I just dumped my data, wiped the damn thing, reinstalled the factory OSX, let it update again.

And now it seems to be back to normal variable fan speeds.
