Hi All,
got myself a Mac pro 4.1>5.1 looking for some extra drive sleds, I only have 2 (but a PCIe SSD and a SSD in optical space)
Ask a chap on eBay if his would fit and he said NO! Did the Sled change between the 3.1 and the 4.1? What I've seen all look the same but I really don't know!

Any Help.

Mel.

Mac Pro 2006 to early-2008 all have the same hard drive carriers (the correct name for the sleds), the shorter one, while early-2009 to mid-2012 have a different model of the sled.

Part numbers are different:

  • MP1,1 to MP3,1: Hard Drive Carrier 922-7728
  • MP4,1 and MP5,1: Hard Drive Carrier 922-8899

The sleds are not compatible between Mac Pro 3,1 and 4,1/5,1. OWC Mount Pro 2.5" Drive Sled for 2009-2012 Apple Mac Pro are on sale for around ~$15 a piece on Amazon right now and they allow you to mount 2.5" hard drives or SSDs. OWC hard drive sled/bracket for Mac Pro 2009-2012 are not currently on sale but they are available for $25 a piece and allow you to mount newer 6tb+ 3.5" hard drives. Otherwise you may be able to find some used 4,1/5,1 sleds from another Mac Pro that will allow you to mount older 3.5" 8TB- hard drives.

Hi,
Thanks guys for your quick replies! I could have dropped a clanger there. Perhaps I'll take a look for the OWC 2.5" jobs...

Hi Zedex,
Thanks for the offer, but postage to the UK, would I think make them expensive! I'm watching a couple of sets on eBay, about £25-30 a go inc p/p....

If you're looking for a 2,5 SSD adapter for the SATA bays, I would recommend the OWC Mount Pro.
Although I'm not a fan of OWC, this product is well made and IMO worth the price.

@Cactusface
I'll send you 4 for 50 quid and offer free postage to the UK.. to further sweeten that deal i'll send one OWC 2.5in SATA SSD sled and 3 original silver 5,1 sleds. That should be a nice combination and obviously you'll end up with at least one spare in the event you need one at some future point in time ?

I'll work up a listing in the next few hours - just letting you know they're yours if you want them!

Hi Zedex,
Thanks for the offer but, more then I need, I also need to get some faster RAM 1333 (24-32GB) as my CPU will take it, and really need more USB ports. I'll keep an eye out for your auction. you never know.
