Mac pro startup disk missing

Hi I have an issue with my 2008 mac pro that I'm hoping you can assist me with. I upgraded my mac with 8 gigs RAM ( and a 2 TB HD (. It read 10 gigs RAM and both the startup HD and the 2 TB hd nicely on my system profile. I subsequently assigned my startup disk to my 2 TB hd. BOTH DISKS icons appeared on system pref.

Everything went wrong when I carbon cloned data from my macbookpro to both my 2 TB hd and the 500 GB hd that came with the MP.

1) After cloning I tried starting up some music in LOGIC; samples where missing??
2) I verified my disk permissions and the 2 TB needed repairing but I must boot up from another disk
3) I decided to go to system preferences to follow the above instructions but only to realize that the icon for my original startup disk is missing and only the 2TB icon is there. Therefore I needed a plan B.
4) No plan B since I'm no computer nerd. But what I thought of was to erase the 2 TB. The check box for erase in utility is grayed
5) Tried removing the 2 TB to see if I can start up with the remaining disk but a ? appeared.
6) Tried booting up holding down the option key but only Mr 2 TB and my time machine backup appeared( cant use as start up disk- no operating sys.)

What OS version was the TM backup made with? If it was 10.7.2 or later, you can select that as the boot option from that screen you mentioned. It will boot to a recovery screen. From there you can use Disk Util to format drives as needed and then restore the OS and all your data from the TM disk.

Thanks for your efforts in replying to my post…lol.
I eventually got everything figured out by re-cloning and erasing drives.I eventually was able to dedicate the 2TB as my startup drive and the 500 GB as my drive for logic files.
