I am in the process of purchasing my new 1,1 (well new to me), and have a question for you guys.

Currently with my G5, it is on the desk. But where is the optimum place to put the tower? Do you guys have it on the floor underneath the desk, or on top for easier access to the ports?

Have a tried both and changed numerous times from desk to floor. When it is on my desk I like having the access to the rear ports more easily (like the audio and video mainly), and being able to open the machine from the side while running...

Right now I have it on the floor on my right side near my right leg (I have a corner unit). I have no had a problem because I have never needed to access the rear ports. I am thinking about upgrading to a 27" ACD and I am a bit worried because I have heard the display cable is incredibly short and may not reach to the floor (I have heard this from numerous people). They say if you have the 27" ACD, you must have your Mac Pro right next to it on the desk.

I do like having more room on my desk to put my speakers right next to my display, with the Mac Pro on the floor out of the way.

Whenever Apple decides to release a new Mac Pro I plan on having it on my desk. Easier to dust off then if it was on the floor.

I have mine on the floor, and my 27" Cinema Display reaches just fine (The cable is about a metre, not as long as the older ones, but still plenty for me). Ive had both, but I prefer having it on the floor just as if I dont have it on the floor I dont have enough deskspace for my triple monitors.

Desk

Mine is hanging under the desk. I've tried having the MP on top of it but because of the annoying "humming noise" it is now under the desk :(

My Mac Pro is underneath my desk. The cable of my 27" Cinema Display can reach the back of my Mac Pro. But I can pull the machine out only a very short distance, which is inconvenient to reach the inside of the machine. Another problem is that the MagSafe power plug can't be made use of! I just wished that Apple had left free the MagSafe power plug at the end of the Cinema display!

Good question. I was contemplating the same dilemma. I'd like to have it on my desk for easier access to caress the beauty that is the beast.

Under my desk, but a custom build enclosure. I purchased an extension for the video cable but.

Mine's on the desk; a Windows PC is under it. Problem with being on the floor is that it tends to suck in a lot more dust and muck.

I have mine on the floor and I agree it pulls in tons of dust from there. Every time I open the thing I have to blow all the dust out.

I have to keep mine on the floor because with two displays and a pair of nearfield monitors sitting on my desk, there isn't much room for anything else without making things feel cramped.

I've just gotten in the habit of dusting my machine out every time I open it to swap out hard drives.

As long as you periodically clean the area around it, and clean the inside with compressed air every six months the floor is fine. It just has to breathe ie: cool air in with no obstructions t the intake or exhaust.
