Mac Pro won't boot

My mac pro won't boot, all I see is colored snow and patterns on my screen. I verified that my monitor is still good. I can't seem to get the DVD player to open, to try to boot from a disk. I swapped out the primary drive for another, but I still have the same issue. I do hear the startup sound when I boot. Is there something corrupted in the startup disk? Or is there some ROM that assists in the boot up that is corrupted?

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Try another graphics card.
 
I don't have a spare graphics card lying around, can I take it to the apple store and would they test it?
 
Definitely try another video card. If it chimes, it passes POST. If it passes POST, then it's meeting the minimal requirements for booting. Also, if you verified the monitor is good, the next thing to do is re-seat your current video card and if that doesn't help, try swapping it with a known good video card/brand new one. Although brand new doesn't always equal good.

It depends, is it in warranty?
 
My graphics card has two ports, the 2nd port doesn't seem to work, I assume that one is only for a second monitor?

Well if one port is bad, that points even more to the need for a video card replacement. If it's out of warranty and you take it to Apple,they will verify it's your video card but overcharge you on a replacement card, especially on labor.

Your best bet is find the cheapest card you can online that is compatible with your mac pro and swap it out yourself.
