I just got this monitor yesterday, while in bootcamp under xp sp3 it will work fine at its native 1680x1050 but under OS X it wont offer me this resolution, it only offers me 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. I have tried it on both dvi ports and no difference. I have also tried DisplayConfigX but it wont let me install this as a custom resolution telling me its out of range.

I am pretty much out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Shortly after trying and failing with DisplayConfigX last night I did come across SwitchResX and I did specify the 1680x1050 resolution but upon exporting it the resolution that was offered was only with a 30khz refresh rate, I did not apply it as did not want to risk setting the system to some display mode that it does not support. Anyway Im at work for the next 4 hours and will try to mess around with the refresh rate settings when I get back home.

Still no joy

Well I did try SwitchResX, however it did not do the trick, it says its added 1680x1050 @ 60hz but It did not appear in Display, I did reboot which it said it would need for it to take effect. Anyhow I will reinstall and try again, will let you know how it turns out, luckily I keep very little on the boot drive.

trust me set it on 30hz and it'll work and look exactly the same.

Either way I appreciate the post I was interested in a acer screen as my 2nd monitor and now I'll be looking else where possibly viewsonic or a samsung.

I'm so glad I picked up a 23" acd as my main monitor with the mac pro. :)

DVI to the rescue

I was hunting for a way to make my Acer x2232w 22" image more clear. I came across this thread, and tried a few things, none of it really helped.

I was experiencing a ghosting effect, where text and icons where leaving a blur to the right. I also had distortion because it was using incorrect screen ratio (1600 x 1200) the advertised 1680 x 1050 was not available in Display Preferences.

After trying a few things, I realized the monitor had a DVI port. A $30 DVI cable and it's working as advertised. I now have correct resolution and no more ghosting.

(I still have SwitchRezX running as I'm posting this, so if a DVI doesn't fix your problem, perhaps you need both.)

Thought I would pass this along, since I couldn't find it anywhere.

I was having this issue and SwitchResX fixes the issue in OSX.

But now I've tried booting into Bootcamp Win7, and I'm getting this issue again. It's my secondary monitor, the primary one works fine (Dell 24").

My Setup is Mac Pro 3,1 with an ATI 5870... is there a program like switchresx for windows or another solution that i can try?
