Mac ProBook Won't shut down

So I have a 2011 mac Pro 17" running OX S .

Now for the issue I have warranty call tech support and they tell me they never heard of this before ,so we did a few things to clean up using sift keys and etc. tells me he feels it maybe a hardware issues ?

being new to the iMac, I can shut down the mac but the picture stays on the screen not being able to completely shut down only way is force shut down ., when this happens .

so this happens at sometimes and then other times it's fine , started a month ago , anybody have ay clues on what is happening ?
I have no open programs , just safari and mail. already did a reinstall of safari .
would it be better to ask for a specialist when I call tech support again ?

need help this is totally a issues and paying $2000 for laptop and after this short of time , I do have a Imac with no issues at all

Probably would get more help if you posted this in the MacBook pro forum instead of the desktop Mac Pro forum... With that said, my guess I some software is not allowing OSX to shut down properly. I ha the same problem with TuneUp. Whenever it was running and I wanted to shut down or restart it would cause OSX not to shut down. I would then have to force TuneUp to Quit and then would be able to shut down properly.

You can try to look for "suspicious" processes in Activity monitor.
Terminate them one by one and try to shut down your laptop in between...

And make shure to look at the processes of ALL users

Either you are not knowledgeable enough to be giving advice, or you're trolling and trying to point out that he's not using the proper device names. He owns a Mid 2010 model 17" model MC024ll/a. That was ascertainable from the information he posted. Tiplenrorth, look at the link that Topper posted a few posts above this one. That's where I would start. Lots of programs can cause this unfortunately.

Run a maintenance utility like Onyx.
Reinstall OS.
Do any of these before throwing away a perfectly good book. Hangs on shutdown are fairly common. Nothing to worry about. A little cleaning is all that should be needed. Unless you are not telling us everything.
