I'm thinking of signing up for .mac but I have a couple of questions about the email. My wife and I would both need email accounts. Will we each be able to have our own? Do we share 1gb of storage space? What's the difference between the regular account and the family account?

Thanks.

You would need to pay extra for a second email account.

.Mac members can purchase up to 10 additional email-only accounts for US$10.00 each per year. (Email-only accounts include 50 MB of storage, which can't be increased.)

The family pack include 5 or so accounts I think, but it may be cheaper to get a single account and add one email address for your wife.

What does it mean then that a regular account gets 5 "aliases" to "play" with? That's the description on the Apple website. What's the difference between an "alias" and an "email account"?

Thanks.

The aliases just link to your account. For example your can have work@mac.com as an e-mail alias, and when someone e-mails something to that it will really be sent to home@mac.com - which is your main account name. When you receive e-mail from the alias it will label it with a color (which you can set on the .Mac web page) So all the e-mail will be going to the same account, but it's just sorted differently. It's a free option and is good if you have a company or want to use it to keep things organized. :)
