I have an old @mac.com email from a trial a couple of years ago, and I'm really looking into getting mobileme, but I hate the @me.com address, and I don't care for the name I used in the trial a while back, so I'm looking to see if it's possible to still get an @mac.com email.

I was wondering if I used a .mac retail box to set up my mobileme account, if I could still get an @mac.com email that way?

If you had a .mac address before, you could renew that account and keep your old @mac.com name along with a me.com address - you get both. You cannot create a new blank account with a @mac.com name, just @me.com.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but didn't apple anounce just a couple weeks ago that you can no longer salvage old @mac usernames? At least that's what it said in an e- mail apple sent me to my @me.com account.

I never got an email like that, however I already have an active account allready so it would be kinda meaningless for me....
