Mac Storage

Good afternoon everyone, I was wondering if you could help me with this issue.

According to "About my Mac - Storage", I have Movies, Photos and Audio that take aprox 4.5Gb of space (it's not much, but take into account that I have a 120Gb Mac). The thing is that the Macbook is new (3 months old) and I have not downloaded anything (even my iTunes only has less than 10 songs), so I have no idea where those movies, audios and photos are.

Also, I've read some Threads and I've done what they recommend (Spotlight reindexing couple of times, didn't work) and nothing works.

My hypothesis is that those files are download files from Mail that the app automatically downloads, but I haven't found those either!

What do you think could be happening?

Two things... first even on a new Mac right out of the box with zero movies and zero photos, there will be space used in both of those categories from images and small videos that are included with the OS. Secondly, that storage graphic is always completely screwed up and wrong, so just ignore it.

Daisy Disk can also help with this. It will help you pinpoint large files.

Its presents the usage in a way that makes the most sense to me.

I'm sure it can be.

Unfortunately I could not find it in Japanese Mac App Store. And there seems no link in Google search result showing it is published in any Mac App Store.
Anyway, it is released for free, so this should not be a serious problem to use it.

The numbers that the OS uses seem to be very iffy and at time arbitrary in their representation of what is on the disk. Most of the time everything is just stuck under 'other' for me.

Hello! I followed your advice and now I have the list of largest files, but I honestly dont know what those files are. Moreover, I cannot find any movies/photos/audios than can add up to nearly 4.5 gb.

What do you think about this?

A quick glance shows that those videos are likely the videos located throughout the System Preferences Trackpad/Mouse/etc Panes. They're used to show how to perform gestures on your trackpad. The others look like they may be from Garageband and other various system components.

I really wouldn't touch any of them unless you know they don't belong to the operating system.

You need to reread my post #3. There is nothing wrong with your Mac.
