Hi there, i have a question regarding the mac studio and dual display setup.
I have connected two displays via usb-c to display port adapter to the mac studio.

I configure the alignment of the displays. As long as the machine stays on everything is working fine.
At the moment the mac or the displays go to sleep, the alignment is lost.

I have already tried almost every trick, swapping ports, resetting displays, disabling MissionControl options...

Does anyone know a working fix? do i need to connect one monitor to hdmi instead of usb-c?

Please advise.
Apple support was not very helpful :(

Thanks!

By alignment do you mean their position relative to one another - like which one is on the right vs. the left?

Also what displays are these? (I'm guessing they are not ASD or XDR)

I have two thoughts, and I'm not sure either are genuinely helpful, but here I go anyway...
  1. There's this super long thread over here talking about it. For what it's worth, I do think there's SOME bug in macOS or Apple Silicon that's made this work like crap. My Intel Mac mini has zero display issues; my Apple Silicon MacBook Pro does exactly what you're describing.
  2. For me and others using two identical displays, I think it comes down to Apple Silicon Macs not properly recognizing them as unique. So it's a crapshoot whether they end up arranged correctly. You might get around this by using a different connector type -- i.e., one on DisplayPort and another on HDMI. Or one on USB-C and another on a dongle. This might help macOS remember the difference. In my case, that won't really work, so my workaround: when my displays get mixed up, I turn them both off. Then turn on the left display. Then turn on the right display. Fixed for another day... and still a thorn in my side. :)

Hi all,

sorry for the late reply, i have now fixed the problem.
I attached one display via the hdmi port, the second one via the thunderbolt port.
It seems that the mac studio is prioritizing the hdmi port.

Since this change, the problem is gone.

Thank you all for your input.
