I was just checking to see if there were any available base model Mac Studios with the M1 Ultra in the Chicago area today and Apple’s website now says that they are only available for pickup in-store on May 17th. So, it would appear that there won’t be any more available inventory in the stores until the middle of May. They have been available daily in at least a couple of stores here until today. It would appear that they are selling well and that they have exhausted their initial stockpile of units.
I was happy that I was able to pick one up on opening day, but am a little concerned that the 1TB of storage may not prove to be enough, so I may return it and order the config that I really want. Isn’t it laughable that a 1TB drive might not be enough space nowadays. I remember the days of a 20MB drive filling an enclosure the size of a two-drawer file cabinet being amazing technology. We really have come a long way, haven’t we?
