Not sure what's going on but lately my Mac Studio Ultra has become extremely unreliable when browsing the web. Both Chrome AND Safari ... which seems to point to the hardware or operating system, but I can't figure out why.

And by unreliable, I mean the browser windows completely hang when I try to navigate to a webpage, to the point of having to kill the entire browser process ... and sometimes even that doesn't even work! Something hangs at a kernel/driver level which means I can't even complete a clean shutdown.

In the good days I’d have suggested running the latest Combo updater. I don’t know what the current equivalent of that is now.

I have had the same issue on Mac Studio and so have others. Someone reported that for him it was related to having both ethernet and WiFi connected and toggling the ethernet service status changed it. I created a script to make that easy but it did not work.
I do not think this is resolved by reinstalling. If there is ANY corruption on the system snapshot it would fail boot. I have removed and purged everything related to Safari (prefsm containers, etc.) and turned off all extensions. It still hangs. The Tech Preview does the same!!!! It has its own Webkit.
Have not seen it booting on Ventura, but I mostly stay in Monterey.
Another note: it does not happen on my MacBook Pro 13". I migrated apps and user settings from it at the original Mac Studio install, so I do not think it is related to my personal config.

Do you have a Studio Display? What, if anything, is plugged into any ports on the Studio or Studio Display? I’ve had some funky things get fixed by power cycling the Studio Display.

Using triple Dell 5K monitors. So not quite the same. Rebooting does seem to fix it but lately I’m not sure if if the problem is going to be fixed for more than a day.

Addiotionally: Which version of MacOS? Can you run Activity Monitor and monitor the memory pressure?

I'd still perform a reinstall of MacOS. It simply rewrites system files and doesn't mess with your data files or specific settings, so there's really no harm in trying. As always, just to be safe, make sure you have a good backup first.

Assuming you're asking me ... 64GB of RAM so there's virtually no chance of memory pressure. Latest version of macOS. Using WiFi + Ethernet (which typically means Ethernet is getting precedence).

is private relay beta turned off?

have you checked that your router serving both ethernet and WIFI is up to date firmware-wise?
is your network under DDOS attack?
are other devices on your network having issues?

well, there could be in case of a leak.

Latest version of macOS.
You are referring to Monterey or the current Ventura beta?
Using WiFi + Ethernet (which typically means Ethernet is getting precedence).
If not so: move Ethernet to the first place in the list of network connections. Then set the MTU for the ethernet connection to 1453.

But first: if you use a VPN deactivate socket filtering.

I had Safari hangs and VPN not working with my Mac Studio.

The problem was shockingly my Studio Display. There's a couple posts about network issues with this display. It was set my Mac Studio's wifi in System Preferences, switching the sort order fixed it.

experiencing this as well.it will be random some sites will fail to load. quitting safari and restarting seems to work half the time.this is with a few studio displays and 12.5. I only have Apple cables plugged into the usb-c ports to charge AirPods and a headphone adapter.
