I first placed my order on 16 March for both Studio Max and Studio Display with initially 1 TB SSD.
Then I deleted the Studio Max because I changed to 2 TB SSD after some thought. That order was 23 March.
Did you look at the shipping tracking details before it arrived? did its journey start in china? I don’t think they’d send returned units back to Shenzhen and then ship them back here. Returned units would, I expect, get reconditioned at least in the same country as they are returned from I imagine.Ordered my Mac Studio 1TB Max on the 24th April, it arrived today. I can't have a look until Sunday but it came much quicker than expected, concerned I've been sent a returned one given the delays that were expected
If we were to discover that Apple had this kind of practice: to sell at the price of the new a product already unpacked and turned on, it would make a huge scandal. I don't think Apple or any manufacturer would risk the consequences.
Same over here. EDU order and today counting 48 days without any changes.

There are no returned/refurb units sold for weeks/months after a given launch. When I worked at the store, even the Genius Bar replacement units were technically new for several weeks (sometimes months) after a launch (but without the retail packaging.) It takes awhile for Apple to turn around and re-use returns/refurbs.
I guess the only exception is if someone returned a perfectly sealed one to a store. If we deemed it never used/never opened, then we could resell it but that required an override in the inventory system. But since yours came from China, and not purchased at a store, it's definitely 100% new.
When you sign in to Apple on the website with your computer (not the iPhone app): does it tell you a date? On the site he tells me: 4 to 5 weeks while before he put me on July 5. What about you?
It gives me the same estimated date range every time, and it's the same on the iPhone app and the Apple order status website when I use a browser on either of my Macs: May 31-June 15. Does that help?
M1 Max with 64GB and 1TB. Ordered on April 15th and said delivery JULY 26, now says SHIPPING TO STORE but still says 5-6 weeks above that! LOL
Will it take 5-6 weeks to ship to my store here in Los Angeles? Who knows?

I also ordered via edu store, so I doubt that plays a part in priority. It's funny in all this seeing how even slight changes to customization specs can have such an effect on shipping times!

UPS tracking shows my Mac arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday but it hasn't moved since then. They've now pushed the delivery back from Monday to Wednesday. Seems the shipping process is still not back to running smoothly yet
There appears to be a freight backlog at Hong Kong airport. For the last couple of weeks, people have been reporting that their computers have been stuck at the airport for 3-5 days. On the upside, orders move rapidly once they leave the airport for Anchorage.
Helpful to know that Hong Kong airport is still causing some delay.
Mine is now showing as shipped as well. Awaiting departure from Hong Kong airport just like many others. Card hasn't been charged yet, but I'm sure it will be shortly.
Oddly enough they haven't updated the expected shipping date from June 23-29 yet.

Mine says "shipped to store" but there's no shipping info anywhere or tracking numbers.

Well I’ve just turned it on and don’t need to set the studio up properly as it’s just noisy. It’s louder than my pc which uses multiple noctua fans, there’s a high pitch noise and constant computer turned on noise that I’d expect from something made 10 years ago. Gutted really as I wanted this to work.
That sucks. Seems to be an issue with Max more than the Ultra. I may be wrong, and maybe it's that more people ordered the Max, but I don't think I've seen this come up with an Ultra.
I've been reading on here every day and the impression I got were that people were having issues with both.
I think that there are enough threads about the tiny minority of people with noise complaints without turning this thread into one too
