I really hope my May 30 - April 6 delivery date arrives on May 30 or earlier. I ordered the M1 Max 10/32 with 32GB RAM and 2TB storage. I may also see what M1 Max configurations they have in the Apple Stores on launch day. I'm hoping they may have a M1 Max 20/32 64GB 1TB or similar because then I may cancel my order and go to the store on launch weekend.

I have an older Dell 24" UltraFine Monitor and I may replace it with a Gigabyte M32U gaming monitor that can do 4K 144Hz Display Port or USB-C. I'll also be hooking a few HDMI devices to the 2 HDMI ports. There's even a KVM switch and easy input switch. I still have a 2019 27" iMac that will sit alongside the 32" monitor and I'll hook that up to the 32" monitor too.

Ordered M1 Max 32 core GPU + 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD about 20 minutes after the keynote via the UK Education Store - expected on 21st March, which is about the same turnaround as I had with the M1 MBA.

This is me finally ditching dedicated windows machines at home as there will no longer be any need for it.

Never been a huge fan of the 5K screen koolaid, i'll stick to monitors that are tried and true at 1/4 of the price.

Not that I know of. But you are also welcome here. 🙂 What Vesa arm or stand will you use? I'm looking for one at the moment and am a little bit overwhelmed right now. Ideally I want some kind of system that I can expand over time in case I get a second display. And I would like to have everything mounted to a single pole.

Maybe you should adapt your hobbies in a direction that would justify that kind of machine. 😉

I have the Fully Dual Monitor Arm currently holding 2 x 28" 4K monitors (Lenovo ones). So I'll replace one of them with the Studio Display. The arms work really well - easy to assemble and it's effortless to adjust the monitors.

I just bought the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for my Studio setup. Gotta have that Touch ID. I don't use a mouse, have a trackpad.

I think I made up my mind that if Costco offers it I'll get a base model. So it is all on Costco now! ;)

Typically Costco offers the Apple products they carry at a slight discount but then the also double the warranty on computers and then with my Citi Costco card they double that and give me additional cash back too.

Poking around on the store app, it looks like the biggest delays are from either M1 Max with 64gb of RAM, or any M1 Ultra system (memory and storage seem to have no effect on shipping times). Anything with those options are at 10-12 weeks. Is this what it’s looking like in other countries?
So it seems the higher capacity RAM modules required for 64-128GB configs are the source of delay. I hope the M1 Ultra base will have some stock for store walkin next week though.

I just looked and going from a 1TB to a 2TB SSD bumped you from a defined date to 10–12 weeks.

I can’t wait to start seeing these arrive so we can see some setups! I would love to get the studio display, but I have a 43” LG that I don’t know if I could move away from. It’s like having 4 27” screens.

I ordered the M1 Max 10/32 with 32GB RAM and a 1TB drive, ordered late in the day when it was released, I swear I had an earlier delivery date, March 20 something if memory serves, they now have it at March 31-April 7. Ordered the keyboard too and that came today. I'm actually buying this to replace one of the new M1 iMacs that was very disappointing after my experience with an 8GB M1 Macbook pro. More beach balls then I get on my laptop which has half the RAM. Been fighting with this machine since it came, Migration Assistant, left stuff out and messed permissions up, it was so bad I did a fresh install of everything with marginal improvement. The Studio is more in-line with what I've been using (2013 trashcan). I work in print, so figured that the iMac M1 would be overkill but both Photoshop and InDesign run better on my laptop. You can't even get an accurate trade in price as it limits the drive size choices for the iMac to 512GB, and at 512GB they are offering $880.00 (US) for a machine I recently paid over $2k for, eBay it is. Truly hope the Studio lives up to the hype, from the interest and orders, they seem to have hit on a machine that is a suitable replacement for an older mac Pro without the need to see the Apple mortgage people (they must have one for the current pro). Putting off starting on the 3 book design jobs I have in the cue until the Studio gets here, fingers crossed.

It’s like having 4 27” screens.
But with an extremely bad image quality. A single Studio Display has more pixels than your 4K 43" display. The image quality would be so so so much better with the Studio Display.

The 43” at 4k is more DPI than my eyes are already. Lol. I know what you are saying, but the image quality looks great for what I’m doing on it. I would love to get a Studio display. Maybe one day.

Do you sit three meters away from it? 🙂
But hey if you are satisfied with it: Great! Keeping your current display is a financial benefit and it makes also more sense in general to use technology as long as possible because it is not great for the environment to exchange everything "all the time". 👍

Also ordered the M1 Max but the 24* core GPU version, also from the UK Education Store within 20 minutes. Delivery 29 March to 5 April.

* I don’t do video, audio or gaming so no idea what I need the other 23 cores for.

Good question! :D

Web application development - docker, laravel, node, vue, js, sql etc etc.
Ah! I do the same, but I also do video and photography. Do you really need the power of the Mac Studio for web development? I mean my work notebook is a MacBook Pro from 2017 and I don't feel the need I need something faster. Even the M1 is faster than that "old" thing. 🙂

I write a fair bit of industrial control and logistical software, where dockers can take up around 12Gb RAM on their own, so the 16Gb M1 wasn’t going to be enough. A 32Gb iMac M1 Pro would have been great, and what I was waiting for, but alas never arrived.

I do a fair bit of photography as a hobby and that really struggles on my old iMac.

Unfortunately I have no talent at all in the video/audio arena. I can only marvel at those who do.

Oh wow, I did not work much with docker yet.
At least you a machine now which should last you fairly long. 🙂
