Hi all,

Is it just me or does the Mac Studio have a really slow read and write speed?

I was transferring images and mp4 files off a Sandisk Extreme Pro Micro SD card UHS-1, with a claimed rating of 170 MB/s read and 90 MB/s write. When I used Blackmagic the results were lower for both using the internal SD card Reader. However, using an external Caldigit Soho dock, the speeds were faster.

Do you think apple will fix this?

That's consistent with what I see. The internal SD card slot is convenient, but I still pull out my USB card reader for downloading larger shoots.

according to transcend, expect UHS-1 speeds (instead of UHS-II speeds), if the card is not fully seated in the slot
That might be true for UHS-II cards that have more contact pins, but for UHS-I cards like my SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I cards that can do 170 MB/s read on my external reader, the Mac Studio caps them at 90 MB/s no matter how carefully I seat them.

The advice about pushing the card in deeper only applies to UHS-II cards that have a second row of pins that might fail to make contact. UHS-I cards have only one row of pins. Pushing harder won't help. The Mac Studio will only drive that first row of pins to 90 MB/s even though other readers can do almost twice that. Read the link you posted again. They're specifically talking about UHS-II and the second row of pins.
