This might've been covered here before, but I couldn't find it in a quick search.

Yesterday I "upgraded" to the latest version of Sonoma from the latest version of Ventura. The computer is a Mac Studio Max M2.

Now, audio peripherals connected to the rear USB-A ports don't work properly. Specifically, there is a constant clicking at about a 1 second repetition rate.

The same USB DAC worked perfectly since I bought this computer from a rear USB-A port. That is, until the upgrade. It's hard to believe that it's a hardware problem.

My workaround for now is to use one of the TB4 ports on the rear via a USB-C to USB-A cable.

Has anybody found a better way?

I've tried restarting coreaudio through terminal. Nada. Reboot - same. I know there's an issue with sleep in Energy Saver having to do with losing USB-A connectivity, but sleep is turned off.

Someone at gearspace.com says that in Sonoma their MOTU device is glitching when connected directly but seems to work fine when going through a hub…opposite of conventional wisdom.

I'm still on Ventura and my PreSonus is working OK via a powered hub.

That certainly is different! I thought that it might be an issue of limiting the powering current available for the USB device. That could explain why a hub would be better. But, this device is around 70 mA, according to System report, which is well below the 500 mA limit. So, who knows?

I just think something is broken in the software. It worked fine two days ago.

Sorry, I misremembered that it said “computers with Apple silicon”.
This does have Apple silicon - an M2 Max - but I can't find the setting you suggested.

Good idea, though!
