Finally replaced my Windows 11 gaming box with Mac Studio, moved all my gaming to console. I use my MAC for Motion Graphics, digital paining, music and now for work getting into Infrastructure as Code with Python/Json/YAML/Jinja etc. so it is working out great but I want to get a companion device to the Studio and not sure if getting a MacBook Air versus an iPad Air is the better direction. I can code on the MacBook Air but like the pencil portion go the iPad for my art stuff.

Curious what others are using in addition to the Studio and finding good synergy and success. Thanks

It is a very personal choice, but I like the iPad Pro as a companion to a desktop. There are plenty of things the iPad can’t do, but for ease of use, around the house, and even on the go, there is nothing like it. A proper laptop on the other hand can indeed work as a desktop away from home, but comes with limitations as well. If all you are doing is streaming, browsing, photo-editing, and MS Office stuff, go with an iPad. If you need to code, video edit, and write long papers, go with a MacBook.

Regardless of what you choose, get all-in with the Apple ecosystem (Music, iCloud, collaboration) and it will work seamlessly.

That said, as you can see from my signature, we have plenty of Apple stuff in the house. Both my wife and daughter study at Uni., and they couldn't be without their laptops. We all have iPads and iPhones - all serving their special purpose. I tried working off an iPad Pro for a few months some time ago, and it didn't work.

Ended up going with an iPad Air, Magic keyboard combination. Was able to load a few coding apps for when I need to do that and still get the ability to use pencil. So happy with the results. Appreciate the response
