I'm trying to convince a friend and her husband to replace her dying Dell with a G5 Quad and I need your help. Her husband's a PC tech/admin and hates Macs so it's a tough sell. All of her research and business contacts suggest getting a Mac, though, so we may be able to rescue her from the dark side after all.

She publishes a specialty magazine for a major publishing chain and is looking to upgrade her system. She uses Adobe stuff a lot as well as some M$ program called Digital Image Pro. I've never heard of it but she uses it a lot, too. Is there a Mac substitute that anyone can suggest?

She's also worried about graphics cards and is looking at the 7800GT upgrade from the 6600. Her husband says she really needs a fancy graphics card to help her with Photoshop and layouts. I don't know enough about photo work to really have a say in that. Is that true?

And lastly, I'm steering her towards the Quad since she wants the upgradability even though I think she could get by with an iMac.

Thanks!

I looked at Digital Image Pro and it looks a lot like iPhoto, if she really needs the more Pro aspect of it then she should look at either Aperture or Lightroom (when it comes out). The graphics card will really help with RAW images and you need a very good video card to run Aperture well. Good luck with convincing them.

And if you're feeling really lucky you can try to convince them to get 2 30"ers. ;)

Thanks. I figured iPhoto would be close. I just need to get her to the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue and have her try them out. She's already afraid to go, fearing she'll buy one just because it's pretty. :D Her Dull is butt ugly.
