mac to pc file sharing.

I have been working on this problem for about a day now.

here is the situation. I simply want to share files between my mbp with snow leopord and pc with xp. the mac has file sharing on and they both have the same workgroup, are on the same network. the pc has a couple shared folders, and I am admin and I gave it a password. I have been looking at tons of forums for this. everything should work. but when I do go>connect to server> smb://GARAGEDESKTOP and click connect. I have also tried using the pc's ip adress. then I get this.

I have tried everything. i temporarily turned off firewall to. I have done a lot of modding on the pc side to speed it up. what services do I need to share? and do I need bonjour? thanks!

I run into that every now and then with the 1Tbit MyBook I have hooked to my Time capsule. The only way I have been able to reconnect, is buy turning off all three machines, MBP, TC, and MyBook drive. Count to 30. Turn on the external hard dive, Time-capsule, and then my laptop. Again i need to let everything set for a while to let everything boot up and find each other. this can take a bit of time. But once everything is back up I can log in again. I never seem to have any problem logging into the XP boxes in the work group.
