Mac to PC networked Printer

I have did a bit of hunting about but not had any luck with the following question.

I have manager to get my mac networked with my Vista PCs thanks to another thread in this forum. (BIG thanks to all involved).

Next thing I hope to accomplish is to share my printer (which is connected to one of the PCs via USB). All the other PCs share this at present.

Can anyone advise who I manage to get the Mac seeing the Printer, as I am unsure what options to go for, adding a printer..

All I found was the article Printer Sharing - Vista to Mac OS X 10.5. To me it looks a little daunting so remember to backup everything on the Vista machine before proceeding and backup what the article says to backup, just in case.

Firstly, thanks but sadly I had tried this one already. Only problem is that part way through it, part of the instructions doesn't work in Vista Home Edition. Tried the rest of it on the off chance to no avail.

Anyone else got any tips?

You might not think this a helpful answer because it involves money, but can you consider/can your budget stand:

-- a network printer?

-- a router with a USB port that can be used for a printer?

Sometimes, throwing money at a problem does work.

Your right, its not a helpful answer, its a cop out.
Of course I could go down that route but why waste money when I should be able to solve it with the kit I already have.

Cop out? Look, Scotty, if you're serious about network printing, you need network printing kit. Sharing attached printers is what you do when you can't do it the right way.

I am not SERIOUS about network printing. I am a regular home user wanting to have the mac access the printer on the PC. I save the serious stuff for at work.
Having researched it a bit more, I might opt for the airport express or extreme.

Got the solution to this thanks to a VERY easy solution provided from another forum and posted on this forum.

Have a look at the post by WirelessInn who has been good enough to repost the solution. The originator obviously knew what they were talking about.

Pleased I didnt spend cash on this now....

Hope this helps others out there.

Here it is, for anyone else, this might help.
Thanks to the original poster...

Prerequisites: 1. your windows PC with the printer on it needs to have an admin account on it with a single word no spaces. (preferred unix) 2. your printer sharename is a single word (ie. Canon iP4300 should be just ip4300).

Now follow the below steps:

1. Open your system preferences > Open Print & Fax
2. Click + to add a printer.
3. Right-click on the Toolbar at the top and select "Customise Toolbar..."
4. Drag the "Advanced" icon to the toolbar & select "Done"
5. Click the "Advanced" icon
6. Select "Windows" from the "Type:" drop down menu
7. In the "URL:" textbox type the location of your windows printer in the format below (use the format depending on whether your Windows PC sharing the Printer has a password or not):
smb://usernameassword@ipaddress/printersharename <- Print Server does have a password
smb://username@ipaddress/printersharename <- Print Server does NOT have a password
(eg. smb://barney@125.254.95.101/ip4300)
8. Enter a Name and Location. (Human Friendly Names with Spaces are allowed)
9. Now select the appropriate driver and then click "Add"
10. Try printing somthing and then it will ask for a username and password of your windows server. Type and username and then the password and then add this to your keychain and click OK.

And there you go. Printing in OSX 10.5
