Hello. It's called the xMac and it won't happen while Steve Jobs is CEO.
Sorry for the newb question but why is Steve so anti something like this?
lrn2reality...
The specs are so far out of proportion, it's ridiculous, it would just go the way of the mac cube, over expensive, aimed at the wrong market and an overheating pile of crap.
Sorry but if you'd gone with some realistic specs, I'd love it, but it seems like a 13 year old apple nerds wet dream...

I can not believe the comments.. Especially this one.. 13 year old Apple nerd's wet dream?!
This ''Mac Tower'' is everything Apple COULDNT give us in the keynote. Its a phenomenal design, it is very realistic and has very well market-focused specs.
He aint talking about the price, but I dont think such a machine would be priced over 1200-1300 USD.. Quad-core DESKTOP chips arent that expensive these days.. You can build a same spec PC under 600-700 USD. Why would a Mac be too expensive?
There is a great market for a product like this. Take gamers for instance.. Take Pros who cant afford a Mac Pro and doesnt wanna buy a all-in-one machine for instance.. Think of the headless Macs Apple is providing today, we have a terribly weak Mac mini, hardly customizable and priced at 600$; and then we have a Mac Pro which is almost 3k$.. Cant you see the gap??? This guy certainly did..
Congratulations on the design. I wish you were in Cupertino. I would KILL to see Phil introducing it on yesterdays Keynote :S

Do you really think a quad core CPU (in such a small tower) and 9600GT would happily run with just one fan cooling both of them?
I applaud you on design (I really like the design actually, I think it's pretty damn close to apples style, which is hard to do!), but your specs are overkill...
2.5Ghz C2D (Laptop version)
2GB RAM
320GB HD
9600M GT 256mb
£1100 ($1400-500 isn't it?) starting price, compare that too the iMac (i know it's dated tech), but it's a good comparison against each machine for price.
ALOT more air holes toothink Mac Pro grilling

No, but it does cook bacon with those big grills at the top. you have to pay an extra $500 for the egg cooking attachment. Can it cook eggs to? If so, I'm Sold!!!
I think we should think out of the box. How could we cool both a quad-core processor and a powerful graphics card. I actually use a 2.66 Quad-core processor, 8GB RAM, 9600 GT graphics card PC for modeling, because I can't afford a Mac Pro. I looveeeee mac but I can't afford it. So I made this PC which cost me 600-700 bucks. And it's in a pretty damn small case. There's only two fans and it's very stable.
So, while all the laptop industry uses the circular batteries for their computers, Apple 'makes' their own rectangular batteries! I think there's always a way to make things 'different'... Within reasonable specs of course... Like, a phone company can put a lot of great futures on their phones, make it a 'killer' phone, but what will they sell next? So, there's always something missing. But in concepts, we can go nuts, they are not actually manufacturing this machine, not selling this. I wish they could, but they can't...
Thanks by the way, if you liked the design![]()
Which is more likely: A Mac Tower or this?
Ok, so... they would take a Mc Tower and compress it into a cube which is an expanded mini... and the market is? Tower users?
If Mac was going to split the market they wouldn't use 4 drive bays.
I would expect 1 Xpci slot (how many does anyone actually use??)
Stereo speakers??
This would be a marketing mess.
I would assume Apple would make a Mac MAXI instead of a shrunken, awkward, waste paper can sitting obtrusive on a desktop. A Maxi version of a mini wouldn't be too bad--twice the height with one PCIX slot, dual processors, lots of room for RAM, dual monitors. At twice the price it would be worth it to me, but I am not sure there is a market worth breeching.
