I've started a new .mac account this morning. I bought the kit last night at compusa, installed, and set up the account. I have my user name, and email works fine. I can't sync, or access my iDisk or anything, and it seems like a lot of people have had the same problem on the Apple help discussions page. I've been waiting for the .Mac email help response, and the Apple discussions page is a bit slow, so what I'm getting at is, has anyone here had a similar problem within the last few days and had it fixed? I'm really feeling like I wasted $100. Also, is Comcast's broadband service compatible, does anyone here use it and .Mac?

Have you set up your .Mac account in System Preferences? Click the .Mac icon in System Preferences, then enter your username and password. You can then configure your iDisk. If email works then your account was successfully set up. Email and iDisk can be configured seperately so that might be why one works and the other doesn't. If you've already done this and it doesn't work then I'm at a loss.

I don't have Comcast, but it'll work. The ISP is not the issue.

it is set up in system preferences. The user name and password are present. In addition, when I click the iDisk tab in preferences, it shows my capacity used, capacity available etc. At one point, I was using a local copy of iDisk, and trying to use the sync button to upload the files, and that wouldn't work. In the apple discussions it suggested not using the local copy. I tried to use Go > iDisk > my iDisk. When I click that it does nothing, literally, nothing comes up, nothing starts, etc. I have never used iDisk or .Mac, but I would imagine that this should mount the iDisk, correct? If I choose to access 'other user's disk' from the same menu, and put in my user name and password I get an error code -43. I get errors when I try to make .mac slides in iPhoto. This seems to be common in the apple discussions section. Anyways, I'm glad to hear that its not my ISP, if you're fairly certain of that. I would imagine its something else, but the lack of .mac phone support is troublesome.

It seems that you're having difficulty contacting the .Mac servers. As far as the go to my iDisk command goes, yes, under normal circumstances, the iDisk will mount and become usable. If you have the iDisk enabled in your sidebar, clicking the sidebar icon also mounts the iDisk. You can tell whether or not you have a local iDisk by looking at the sidebar icon (again, assuming you have it enabled). If there's a circle with two arrows that spins, you have a local iDisk. If no icon is present, you don't have a local iDisk. On my iMac (which has local iDisk disabled), clicking on the iDisk icon does nothing for 3 seconds, then my iDisk comes up like it should.
