I have a MACbook Pro. It's been infected with a virus. I want to back it up but will the virus affect my external hard drive? What should I do? Please advise.

At this point there are not any known Mac viruses in the wild, so you may have been infected with some sort of malware or adware. But yes, if you have malware on your Mac, then backup that Mac to another drive, the malware will go along with the backup.

Can you explain what happened to make you think you are infected an maybe we can help you sort it out.

[doublepost=1456854640][/doublepost]Yes. I'm assuming it's adware. My daughter can't open or view anything without seeing pop ups everywhere all over the screen. Literally, every time she types, there's a pop up.
