Mac Virus Scanning!

i was surfing google for some clipart and when i opened one of the pages an automatic download started. immediatly i knew it must be a virus. the file was saved to my desktop obviously and i scanned it rite away. sure enough an infected file was detected. i deleted the the file, emptied the trash, and reset my mac. i scanned the entire users file to see if i missed anything; and to my relief nothing was detected. should i be ok if nothing was detected in my users file? is there anywhere in particular i should scan to be sure i dont have anything? where do viruses generaly hide?

the virus name was not consistant with any of the recent mac viruses posted on mac rumours so im thinking its probably not a mac virus but instead a windows virus. would a windoze virus download on a mac the same as it would on a pc but just not be affective in carrying out its evil duties on a mac?

I HATE VIRUSES! I am constanly worried about them! Maybe its cause I was a windoze user most of my life.

There currently is no mac viruses. If your scanner picked up a virus is was a virus for windows or another os. It will not effect your system.

About the only good thing a mac virus scanner is good for is to protect your windows buddies when you email them or send them a file

Yes, that kind of thing is not only possible, but common. For example, if you scan your personal library folder, chances are pretty good that you'll find at least one or two attempted Windows exploits in your Java cache.
