Hello. I have an issue (for a while now) I’m hoping someone can help me with. As the title says, my Mac keeps on waking up after I select “Sleep”.
Very consistently, the first time I select ‘Sleep’, the my Mac (Mac Mini M1) will wake back up after 5 or so seconds. Almost never will the first attempt ever work. This hasn’t always happened, but it has been very consistent over multiple macOS updates for many months.
Sometimes the second attempt can get it to sleep. But often I need three, four, sometimes even five attempts for the Mac to go to sleep and say asleep. Though three seems to be the sweet spot.
Eventually it will go to sleep. And once it’s actually (truly) asleep, it’ll stay that way. I don’t have to worry about it waking up a hours later. But I would really like for my Mac to just do it the first time, every time.
I’ve tried to troubleshoot the issue. Unplugging my external hard drive before putting my Mac to sleep (doesn’t make a difference). Switching off my keyboard before putting my Mac to sleep (doesn’t make a difference). Turning off my Bluetooth mouse immediately after clicking “Sleep” (doesn’t make a difference).
I haven’t tried unplugging my monitor yet (but only because I wouldn’t have any idea if the computer woke back up without the monitor, lol). I haven’t tried to connect it to a different monitor yet, so that could be the next thing I do.
I also made sure that network activity won’t wake up the Mac. I’ve also just disconnect the Mac from the network completely just to make sure (doesn’t make a difference).
My Apple Watch is also not setup to wake my the Mac. And just to be absolutely sure, I turned off my Apple Watch (doesn’t make a difference).
So… is there a definitive way to find out what is waking in my Mac? Is there a program or setting or command prompt or something that can very specifically tell me “This hardware/software/setting here woke the Mac up.”?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me. It’s not a huge problem, but it’s been a constant annoyance for months. And I’m finally annoyed enough to ask for help, lol. 😂
