I was considering have .Mac host my domain but when I have loaded pages on my regular .Mac site, I find that it is MUCH slower at serving than the same pages hosted as A Small Orange using my regular domain.

Is that what most people have found?

Would it be any faster if they are hosting the domain rather than hitting on web.mac.com/username/ servers?

Everything else about .Mac is slow (sometimes ridiculously so), so it's not really surprising.
