just arrived at my new post in kabul and went to hook my mac up to the residenential network (which i just was put in charge of).

set up dhcp
turned off ipv6
entered 2 dns

reboot

get a proper ip and default gw

but, whenever i fire up safari... see the contacting cnn.com (as a test), then

the error message says ' network connection lost'

any ideas?

server is w2k server with internet connection turned on. we are looking to change it around but it will be a while and we need to come up with the funds. also will take forever for stuff to make it here.

any help is greatly appreciated. while my office is a two minute walk, i would like to use my mac (which i can't hook up to the corporate network) in my own room.

Do you have a firewall enabled on the Win2K server? It must be disabled on the internal NIC, or rules setup to allow access.

Firewall on the Win2K server. You cannot block incoming packets on the internal interface of the Win2K server, otherwise, the internal computers' packets will be dropped.

Be sure you keep the external interface firewalled, and at the very least, allow ports UDP 53, TCP 80, TCP 443 on the internal interface. If you need FTP access, TCP ports 20 and 21 will be required.
