My MacBook Pro (final version of the 17") was having very occasional issues waking from sleep under 10.8.3 (the UI would occasionally be stuck after a wake, and would require closing and re-opening the lid to kick it in), but was largely running very smoothly under 10.8.
After installing the 10.8.4 combo update, however, it won't sleep at all, period. The screen goes dark, but the fans stay on and the case temperature makes it clear that it's still mostly or fully awake. It also does the stuck-screen-wake thing about half the time, erratically. Before I try a full OS reinstall, I thought I'd post to see if there were any things I hadn't yet checked.
Noteworthy: Even on the login screen immediately after boot, it will not sleep, so it's not anything at the user level. Bluetooth is disabled, and there is nothing external plugged in. SMC reset did not help. There's an OWC SSD in the main bay (which has worked flawlessly since I bought the computer), and nothing in the optical bay currently (had the stock spinning drive there, it died a couple months ago).
The only low-level things I have installed are VMWare Fusion and a key remapper and delay remover so I could use the eject key as a reverse-delete; I removed both key modifiers, which didn't help. I tried the usual means of finding what process was preventing sleep, to no avail--I get no PID.

It looks like a hardware complaint (though it was fine until the OS update, so probably no actual broken hardware), but I don't have a "good" sleep log to compare, and am not proficient at reading those, so no idea how to narrow it down further.
If anybody can suggest something to try, I'd appreciate it!
