mac won't start. Help

ok my iMac (early intel) wasn't running to good so I put my leopard disk in and ran disk utility. Tried to repair the disk. Couple of mins later it says its unable to repair the disk. So full erase and restore needed only I didnt gave time to do it there and then. So came back to mac and now it won't start. I get the White background with the apple logo it sits for a copyle of mins and then switches off??
I just tried again there and as it was powering on it seemed to make a strange noise. Again the White background and turned itself off. Help me please someone.
Thank god I've got my iPhone to ask with.

I would say just boot to the leopard disk again and go for a full clean install. Leave it to do what it does and asks you to do then you should be sorted.

If no luck we've got Apple Store Buchanan!!!

I'm assuming you're holding down the C key at startup, right? If so and that's not working, try ejecting the disk at startup to see if that helps by holding down the mouse button during startup. If it ejects, reboot the machine and try starting from the CD again.

If it still fails, go through the standard troubleshooting techniques.

Hold down Apple+Option+P+R at startup. Wait until you hear the startup chime three times then let go of the keys. See if the startup continues as normal.

If not, hold down Apple+S at startup. If you see the command line (and assuming you're comfortable with the command line environment) you can run disk repair from there. You should see instructions, but basically, just type /sbin/fsck -fy (or whatever variant of this command it shows you.) Wait for that to finish (it will produce updates as it runs and could take up to 15 minutes depending on the state of your machine.) Once it's done, type "reboot" and see if your machine starts up as normal.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately its still the same. I have apple care so I think the best thing is to book an appointment at the genius bar. I'm off work this week so will try and book one for tomorrow. At least I have everthing backed up.

Still no luck. Held down C but after a few mins it shutdown. Seems to be a major problem. What options to the stores have? Is it a case of sending it saY to be repaired if its that bad!!!!

managed to get the leopard disk out but nothing else working.

what a day!!! I'll make it short. went to the apple store genius booted up with an external drive which had leopard on it? checked my disk it was seriously corrupted, but he said yes just go home and boot up and erase and install. so home I went. Didn't boot up as there was no external leopard install disk(or what ever it was he had) so i was back to where i started. Phoned apple care, couldnt have been nicer but after trying all the usual stuff he said best thing to do is get the mac in and repair it. One last thing he said(maybe it was steve jobs lol) what keyboard you using. New one I said, ok connect your old keyboard(one that came with the mac) lo and behold pressing alt and power booted the mac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at last some success, so with leopard disk now being read i ran disk utility totally erased the disc(with zeros) then reinstalled leopard!!!!!!!!
one more thing(steve again) check your RAM, I had a 512 which came with the mac and a 512 which i bought from crucial around a year ago. turns out the one from crucial is gubbed.
decided against moving all my stuff back from TM so have just moved music, pics, movies etc..
so right now i have dragged my music from the external into music then import to itunes except itunes is coping two copies of every song?
oh well.....................
