I’ve been on the fence about buying a Mac purely for Logic Pro over the past couple of weeks.

For context, I have a iPad Pro 12.9” with MKB as my main “laptop” and it caters to all my casual needs besides the longing I have for Logic Pro to further delve into music production.

I love my iPad. I love the touch screen, the Mini-LED, the Apple Pencil support, the way you can use it as a tablet or a “laptop” so I don’t need a Mac to replace that but I genuinely cannot make up my mind to pay such a price, not only for a Mac but Logic Pro itself just to use the Mac for Logic Pro.

Any advice?

I use and like Logic Pro. But that’s because I was already a Mac user and it’s the app I learnt to use for digital music creation, building on previous Garageband use. Logic Pro is also great value with no update costs for many years. But other good options such as Ableton also exist. But not sure I would choose a Mac just for Logic Pro. Garageband is pretty good for iPad. What other uses would you have for a laptop, or what is the digital music set-up (keyboard, instruments…) that you anticipate to use? Ultimately “worth it” is very subjective and down to personal use and affordability!

How much other studio equipment do you use? Are use doing multi-track recording the 16-channels or do you want to. Buying an expensive computer and software just to process a MIDI keyboard when Garage Band would work is not cost effective.

If you are considering Avid's Pro Tools then Logic might be cost effective but if you can us Garage Band on a iPad then Logic is not.

I'd look at the bigger picture.

I have Logic Pro but never have used it because it came in a $199 EDU bundle where I only use Final Cut Pro.

If I were to use the iPad Pro with the M1 iMac I can see myself using the iPad as a second screen next to the Mac - 2 screens with touch screen ability is the best...

If you can justify the cost of e.g. MacMini or iMac for this purpose I'd definitely do it.
As others mentioned too: Garageband can be seen as a lower profile Logic Pro for enthousiast too.
To step up is easy , Logic works very similar and is a very stable Audio processing application designed for professionals.
If you're not really planning on high quality audio recordings (generating more costs too for mics, audio interface etc) , perhaps Logic is a bit overkill.
Anyway, the price for Logic Pro is more than justified IMO.....

The question might be, "is Logic worth it?"
I tried a demo copy once and found it lacking... and then, removed it.

I prefer Cubase.
But perhaps that's just me.

I switched from Cubase to Logic long time ago.
After taking my time to get a decent workflow again, I never looked back ...

I've heard so many discussions about Pro Tools vs Logic for example , and came to the conclusion that basically all are well developed and stable , so at the end it comes down to personal preferences and customs.

Indeed getting a smooth workflow going is key. Basically all DAW's do a great job at mixing and recording. I heard great things about Reaper being able to assign keystrokes, that's a great concept.
