all of a sudden I was restarting my Air and now, it just has the spinning wheel for a few seconds and then goes blank and shuts down...have tried everything the 'guide trouble shoots' but nothing has worked...even was able to test the hard drive and it came back with no trouble...tried to 'return to factory setting' but no luck and also tried resetting the Parameter RAM..still no luck....HELP!!

Does your MacBook Air boot in Safe mode?

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

  1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
  2. Press the power button.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear)

Can you boot holding down the option key (you said safe boot didn't work but can you get it to look for another boot source)?

I got it to the screen where it has a picture of the Mac HD with an arrow pointing up but I cannot scroll to select it...when I just press enter, it goes back to the apple icon screen and that spinning wheel again..and again it shuts down after a min or so

I did a 'single user mode' with control-s and typed in 'fsck -fy' and it came back with "the volume Mac HD could not be repaired". Strange bc I did a hardware test and it didn't have any problems....

Under warranty ?

Hi,

If you're under warranty, at this point, I'd call Apple or make an appointment for a Genius to take a look at it.

Even if it's not under warranty, they can tell you what's wrong with it and let you know your repair options.

If you have AppleCare, you may want to download/use TechTool Deluxe:

Good luck.
