I just gotten this Macbook 2016 less than 2 months ago. Not used often and I have only installed MS Office 2016, RDP client and VM Fusion on it. Somehow I few that the start up is quite slow. Is there anything wrong with my Macbook?

It is i3 256GB 8GB RAM. I have removed all applications to start at login.

That's kind of weird that it hesitates after about 50% progress. Mine usually halts there, then pushes to the end quickly.

That's why it is making me feel that maybe something's wrong with it. Still thinking if I should give Apple a call, or wait for the local Apple Store in my country is open (1st Apple Store in this country) in 2 months time, then bring it to the Genius Bar for them to assess.

Have you tried reinstalling OS X? I know that isn't ideal, but perhaps it's an OS issue?

You mentioned two pieces of software which are notoriously bad with startup times. VMWare and Office. VMWare installs startup daemons to help kick off VMs and do its thing. Office (Outlook specifically) installs a daemon to show notifications when you receive an email, calendar event, etc. Both of these are pretty bad on startup times (Gray/Black Apple logo screen). I had the same issue with Parallels just realized it was the nature of what it was doing in the background at startup after 30 minutes of searching. Open Office is a good alternative, however, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote all provide the same functionality that you get with Office and you can export the documents you create in Office compatible formats.

Hmm, al though it may seem slow and the Macbook has a very fast SSD, I don't think that there is anything wrong with it. I have just bought the m3 2016 Macbook too, and I see a similar start up process and it takes about 20 seconds.
The processors are not very fast, so al though the SSD is incredibly fast, the boot up process is limited by the processor.
However, once it is booted the computer shouldn't feel slow to work with.

My 2016 m3 takes about 15-20 seconds max to boot up; OP's took 30+. I think you're underestimating the Core M series a bit here... and I still think that the OP's machine is booting extremely slowly.

EDIT: Just shut it off and turned it on again. Took 12 seconds from progress bar first showing up to login screen. OP took 30+ seconds on a FRESH INSTALL of Sierra. You can't say that's normal.

It took 30+ seconds? Oo My apologize, I thought it took around 20 second in the videos. I can also say that my Macbook seems to have a faster start up with Sierra at around 15 seconds. So there is probably something wrong with the CPU, RAM or harddrive. However, I was also a bit disappointed at first as the 2012 rMBP 15" I sold booted in less than 15 seconds. But it really is not a problem as long as it is max 20 seconds.

Have OP tried to reset the SMC?

I had the exact same problem. It drove me crazy.... Try to sram + pram reset. You need to fully shut down the macbook for the procedures, otherwise (reboot) it won't work.

Hope this helps for you, too.

Make sure you have your HD selected as the Start Up Disk under Settings. I had an issue where my work rMBP took twice as long as my rMB, turns out I didn't have the disk selected on the rMBP. Once I corrected this, the issue went away.

As a side question, why do you ever shut it down?
Since I got mine about two months ago I never shut it down; just let it in standby.
It instantly turns on when opening the lid.
