Hi,

I'm new here so I hope I'm posting this on the right place.

I have a macbook 5,1 (late 2008) which was working really fine.
Unfortunately, recently it started to freeze. It doesn't do it all the time but it is specially after waking up from sleep. When that happens sometimes, but not every time, green (or other color) lines appear like in the image bellow.

Also this just happend while rebooting after it froze:

Notice the weird thing going on on the left of the screen as well as the startup sound repeating itself!

Here are the specs of the mac:

MacBook (13", aluminium, late 2008)
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
MacOs 10.11.6

Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this?

Thank you very much!

If it is aluminum then it would be a pro.

Some pro's where known to have GPU issues, I have one myself which is fully dead.

Looks like GPU ram issue to be.

Suggest have a computer shop or apple shop take a look.

Reflow or better a reball.

If GPU ram it will get worse and it will die :(
Get it looked at soon as you can.

ok, still sounds like a GPU issue though to me.

see a lot at work when the graphics cards fail.
but in a desktop can just swap it out.

Thank you very much for your help.. is there anyway I can test if it is the GPU?

I'm not 100% sure.

in windows boot in safe mode with bypass driver issues with GPU and put less stress on GPU.

I am still quite new to mac user less than year.
sure some more senior members will chime in soon.
