MacBook - Advantages of getting it rather than PC

I am gonna buy a MacBook.

my sis will be using it for work (office:mac) and I will be using it more for media (I do my work on my PC).

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a mac rather than a PC?

Please keep the answers reasonably simple and straight forward.

Macs are very very much less likely to crash (so less chance of losing your work whilst doing it).

Macs are prettier (both machine and OS) so makes using them more fun and fluffy.

I'm sure the mac-nuts on here will have a million more reasons.

The advantage is that you can run OS X. There aren't any more advantages.

Theres quite literally, loads (mine are just a few)
- Macs don't crash
- Macs don't get viruses/spyware/malware/ect
- They look really good
- Can run practically any OS on the planet (new Macs with Intel chips can anyway)
- OS X is b-e-a-utifulllll to use#
- No drivers
- It just works (unless yours is DOA, which is very unlikley)

As I said, they are just for starters...

Advantages are (1) that OS X is a great operating system (both functionally and aesthetically), and (2) the integration between software and hardware means that sleep, hibernation ("safe sleep" in Apple-speak), and plugging/unplugging peripherals (including external displays and projectors) works without a hitch -- unlike PC notebooks.

The main disadvantage is that OS X is very RAM-hungry, particularly when running under Rosetta. Even MS Office under Rosetta will require at least 1 gig of RAM to run smoothly.

I would have to agree with the advantages mentioned. The only real disadvantage would be if you like to play games after your work is done, but with bootcamp and purchase of a copy of windows that can be taken care of mostly.

While I love my intelmac, I'm surprised by the crashes/kernel panics. In all the years I ran Win in its various incarnations, I NEVER had a crash.

Hard to believe, I know. But it's true. Then again, most of the ram was taken up with anti V anti spyware, firewall, adware sw and the like.

That said, I will NOT be reverting to windoze. I'm a mac convert. As the ads say, "It just works".
