Macbook Air(10.11.13)No Speakers, no video playback

Hey. My 2013 macbook air, running mavericks, lost all camera capability--no FaceTime, no Skype etc and no ability to take photos. This went on for some months and I tried resetting the PRAM and a few other suggestions with no effect. I realized a few days ago trying to play a video that my laptop now cannot do any video playback and the audio controls don't work at all. it will mute and unmet but will not raise the volume and the volume controls are grayed out. We tried wiggling the headphone input piece in the headphone jack as suggested a few places with no effect. Going insane. I upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.13 and it didn't change anything at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
