I am considering making the switch from PC to Mac, the desktop switch is easy, I would simply replace my Dell with an iMac, but I also need a portable computer to replace my netbook. I will be using it for Internet access, a lot of which will be via Ethernet, has anyone had any experience/problems using a USB ethernet adapter with the entry level MacBook Air 11.6 ?

Thanks for your time.

You could always purchase an AirPort express to connect to your ethernet, that way you will have wireless access anywhere for your MacBook Air.

Thanks, I just went and had a look at the Airport Express on the Apple site, but unfortunately it will add more weight and space in my already crammed backpack, and I need to plug directly into the network for what I do, so the USB adapter is really my only option. However, the Airport Express will solve another problem that I had, so thanks for your advice.

Ethernet Adapter

I use the USB Ethernet Adapter on my 11.6 MBA. I have Bootcamp loaded, and have used it in both OSX and Windows 7.

Don't purchase that adapter from Apple, they're a ripoff. Get one from Monoprice.com.

Thanks for the tip, bookmarked. I don’t mind paying a higher price for a USB to Ethernet adapter as long as I get the 100 Mbps speed, that's my only concern. I read that someone with a 2009 MacBook Air was using a USB to Ethernet adapter on a 100 Mbps network but only getting 10 Mbps. Unfortunately I read the article last year and I cannot remember which adapter they were using.
