Just received the new 13" macbook air yesterday and today have noticed some very thin horizontal banding lines across the bottom portion of the screen.

Has anyone else noticed this, or check to see if your one has this problem.
It is quite subtle but it makes the icons on the dock look as if they have a card like effect through them.

Easiest to check if you make your screen wallpaper the dark grey colour.
On this the top part of the screen seems consistent, but at the bottom part there is very thin white horizontal lines. I tried updating the software, but it seems to be the same - looks like a faulty display may have to send back,
wondering if it could be fixed with a software update.

The strange thing is black and dark colours do not produce the effect it only shows up on greys or medium contrast colours like blue.

------------

Apart from that the new built macbook air is much improved - more rigid, solid and it seems they have finally figured out how to make a solid hinge, although I have noticed it is not quite straight and is a few millimetres lower on the right.

One of the main reasons for me trying another Air was the removal of fan noise, which i think is the most annoying thing about computers. This seems to manage 720p and 1080p without excessive heat or fan noise starting.
Quiet operation for most things, although when I tried the SD card reader for the first time last night the fans really started kicking in, at first the fan sounds low level and sophisticated like a jet engine, much nicer sound than the original air hairdryer, but then it went up a few notches and became quite loud, but again a lower frequency sound and not so annoying.

I can live with the fan noise if it is only very occasional such as transferring a high load of info as for other things it has remained silent.

------------

Would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed this display fault and if they can check to see, I will probably e-mail a photo to apple later on and ask if it is fixable with some kind of update, but I doubt it.

Aside from that the new air is a really excellent machine, much more solid, just a shame about the screen so far.

Omg yes finally someone else who has the same thing! I also posted this same concern in a different thread. I have an 11 inch MBA and it has been driving me bonkers for the past week. I noticed it the moment I turned it on but thought maybe it was just the distinguished pixels that I'm not used since I'm always on my retina iPhone.

I just went to the local Best Buy because I wanted to confirm my findings and found that the MBA's there did not have such lines. While my lines are most visible in the dock as you have stated, I unfortunately have them in the top half screen as well, visible in the menu bar. It sucks because I just came from a previous gen MBA that had the similar dreaded horizontal lines issue.

I feel as though these lines are enough to merit an exchange, right?

I experienced the exact same issue. Took it into the Apple Store where the genius confirmed it and gave me a new one... On three separate visits. Yes you read it right. I'm on my fourth.

Yet dealing with them was so easy and pleasant I'm not complaining. Number four also had a faint sign of this till I did the update. Now it's as it should be. No problems at all.

i just received my MBA and it was the first thing i noticed looking at the dock. I'm so angry, it's a CTO with 4GB of RAM and the apple store is at least 30Km from my home!

very very disappointed!
