My MacBook Air 13" arrived today. It's the 4GB, 1.86GHz, 128 GB configuration.
I have been hesitant to fully embrace it replacing my current MacBook Pro 15" mainly because I was worried about the smaller screen size...
But wow.. Now that it has arrived.. I have played with it for last 7 hours or so, it has done everything I've thrown at it perfectly.
Noise. It is very silent... The fan, even at max volume doesn't make a motor noise, it's just wind moving... In my opinion it doesn't sound annoying at all. Also the fan revs up and down quite fast, not like the older MacBooks which take quite some time to get to the highest setting and then even longer to get down to silent again... If it has hard stuff to do it might rev up a bit and then when the load is gone its completely silent again within 10 seconds... I really love that.
Heat. It has none of the problems my previous MBPs all had. It doesn't get uncomfortably hot on its bottom anymore, you can have it on your lap even when you're pushing it..
Lightness / Size / Mobility. When I took it out (even though its the 13") of its packaging, I was shocked at how small it was. But you get used to it within minutes and since the keyboard and the trackpad are full size you don't have issues with it at all. It's really great. Being able to hold it at one of its edges while its open, waving it around, with no effort whatsoever is also great. Also the body is really sturdy, it doesn't flex at all, it doesn't bend, nothing... It's rock solid. I have tried this out especially because of the reports of failing logic boards and some people thought that might be due to flexing it, but no - at least on the 13" the casing is really strong..
Perceived Speed. It really shines in this area. It does anything you wanna do blazingly fast, even when the CPU is at max, programs still start very fast - I'm really happy with the performance. I've had Windows 7 installing 56 updates (in Parallels), was running Time Machine, was checking Disk Usage with Daisy Disk, and played a 1080p movie stutter-free in Plex, all at the same time - it had no problems whatsoever doing that.
The experience I've had in these first hours so far has been mindblowing, it's hands down the best laptop I have ever had, and I don't say these things usually... It's really really great.
If any of you want me to try out anything for you or you have questions, feel free to ask! I can do advanced things too
