MacBook Air 13" purchase

Hello !

I have a question regarding the new MacBook Air 13". In February I'm going to USA NY for a two week vacation (I am from EU). I would like to buy the new MacBook Air while I'm in NY, because I can save 600$ If I buy it in USA rather then in my country. However, I would like to buy not the basic version but the one with 4Gb RAM-

1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
128GB Flash Storage

The question is do I need to order before I go to USA, or I can just walk in any Apple store in NY and they will have this specific version of MacBook Air ? Another question is regarding warranty. Should I buy it or not ? For example when I bought my Canon 40d, I also spend additional 200$ for internation warranty. I never used it and now it is over.
Oh, one more thing. I have heard that newegg.com is one of the best store for computer parts. However as far as I understand they don't have an actual store, they sell items online and then they deliver them by mail. Does that means that I can't buy computer items from them as I'm staying in a hotel ?

If purchased in the US, you will need the Extended AppleCare to have an International Warranty to cover any repairs, etc.

Also, the 5th Ave store seems to have most 4GB configurations in stock. I know for sure all Apple Stores will have what they classify as the "Ultimate", 2.13Ghz, 4GB, and 256GB SSD.

You don't have to buy the warranty now, it can be activated at any time during the first year of warranty.

NewEgg does not accept international credit cards. There are other stores as well like Microcenter which have retail stores too

But do I really need the international warranty for which I need to pay extra money ? Because as I mentioned I purchased Canon Dslr and payed extra 200$ for international warranty only to later discover that nothing really can break if you take a good care of it (don't drop and things alike). Of course maybe exactly your computer will have some manufactory errors and will brake, but the chance that it will happen is really small.

Apple's warranty is international, both, the free 1-year warranty and the optional 3-year warranty. You don't have to pay any extra to get it serviced at your country. You can buy the 3-year warranty later on, even in your country (assuming its sold and supported there).

That's exactly what I said. NewEgg only accepts credit cards from American banks. Since you're a foreign with a foreign credit card, you cannot purchase items from NewEgg. Remember that there is customs in EU. You may be able to smuggle a MacBook Air but if you start buying computer cases and other big items, customs will most likely stop you and it will end up costing as much as it would in your country.

I bought my iMac in the UK, moved to Sweden, and had it repaired under warranty in Sweden just fine.

I think US based members can help you more but Microcenter is pretty popular and people say their prices are fair. They have retail stores so you can go in and pay there. I doubt many online stores will accept foreign credit cards because there are lots of risks.

You can call to check, but I'm pretty sure the nyc stores stock upgraded versions. At least they've had them when I asked before. There are 4 easily accessible stores in the nyc area, Upper west side, 5th avenue, SOHO, W 14th street.

The 5th avenue store is open 24 hours so you can call them any time to ask. The most pleasant shopping experience will be the probably w 14th since I've never been to the upper west side store yet.

If that fails I can always point you to a store in NYC that will sell the 1.86 4gb, 256gb version for 1589 USD.

Don't forget that sales tax is 8.75% in nyc.

Microcenter located in new jersey about 30 minutes outside of nyc by car. It has some great prices, but only on stock models. Their current deal is the 13 inch unibody macbook pro for 999$ and the sales tax is 3.5%

You can buy a prepaid credit card in the us and buy from new-egg that way they are similar to debit cards and can be bought at big retailers such as Walmart good for short term use.

You might try B&H Photo Video in Manhattan NY, I think they may deal with international sales. They have several 4GB MB Airs in stock.

edit: I see they don't ship to hotels, but you might be able to visit their store (an experience in itself I understand) and pick one up. It appears that the store is near the Empire State Building (see the "directions to store" at the bottom of the page).

I was going to buy these part in newegg. However I sent an email, and they reply that they don't send items to hotel, so I need to find some who does send or someone who has retail store. As for the MacBook Air 13", I'm going to buy it at B&H. However not sure where I'm going to get these items:

CPU, GPU (maybe not same brand) and RAM are stock parts and you should be able to buy a similar mobo from any bigger retail store.

You could also look at the option to order it online at http://www.macmall.com (they have good prices and can ship expedited 2 day delivery within US - I bought mine from there and had no issues (same config as you want)
