Is it normal for the MacBook Air 15 to have a slight barely noticeable flex when lifting it with one hand while the lid is open?

Talking about basic matieral physics: A large, surface HAS to have some flexibility. Without flexibility there would only be two different states of the material: In resting state - it stays firm, adding any pressure to it, it would break immediately.
One can make the surface thiker, that "bending" it by simply lifting it, would not apply enough force to bend it, but then you would get a MacBook Chunk instead of Air.

A little, yeah. They're too thin and big to not have that tiny bit - the older Retina MBPs were about as thin as you could go at the larger sizes.

Flex is good. You Don't want carpal tunnel syndrome down the road from having too solid of a laptop

I don’t mind the flex as long as it’s normal and not some defect in my particular unit :) Based on your replies it’s normal.

I don't notice any flex in mine... feels solid. I guess if I were to push the keyboard in I'd feel some flex but otherwise no.

It's a well built laptop. There might be some flex but it's not going to cause any problems.

When you lift it with one hand (lid open) doesn’t it flex tiny bit? Could you please test it by lifting it with one hand (remember to keep the lid open), then, while it’s in the air (ha-ha), switch the side you’re holding onto. This means grabbing it with the other hand from the opposite side and letting go with the first hand. I always hold it by one of the corners on the trackpad side, not the screen side.
