I know this has been asked in various ways, but here’s mine.

Going to primarily use for remote work and usual browsing, typing, PDFs, and streaming. No photo/video editing or anything like that.

Spec’ing both out with 512/16, there’s only a $100 difference. Price not being the deciding factor, what do you suggest? Trying to keep it around $1600.

Ideally I could find a refurbished MBP 2/3 but I haven’t been able to find anything with 16 of ram, either 8 or way too much.

Any help would be appreciated!

Given what you are doing, either one will work just fine, so it comes down to personal preferences. Do you prefer a larger screen, no fans, lighter / thinner? get the Air. If you prefer a somewhat brighter and spiffier screen, or a slightly smaller overall size, get the Pro. (The Air screen is entirely satisfactory; I could tell that the Pro's screen was a bit better in a side by side comparison. I don't see any deficiencies in the 15" Air's screen in everyday use.)

I use my 15" M2 Air in pretty much the ways you describe, and I'm very happy with it. I do like the larger screen, as my eyes aren't what they used to be.
