I got this model early 2008, it is that first 1.6ghz model, with 80gb ipod hd.

The former owner told me that it fell, I imagine the screen must be having problems, but before changing it I wanted to know if anyone had a problem like this? I've done all sorts of resets on it, the screen backlight doesn't light up, and the keyboard doesn't light up either. It is possible to see the image on the screen perfectly using the flash of my cell phone.

Have you been inside your MBAir yet?
Possible that reseating the display data cable might fix. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Air+Models+A1237+and+A1304+Display+Assembly+Replacement/855
Review the steps, but Step #23 shows where that display cable is connected. You may be able to go straight to that step, just to try reseating that cable.
(If the MBAir was dropped, you might also see where there was possible damage)

I have a copy of Apple's service manual for the original MBAir, and it says that replacing the display is one of the possible fixes for the keyboard illumination. (Could be the logic board, too, but if reseating that connector doesn't help, and you really want to fix, you would start with the display, I think.)
