Hi all

My MBA (2020) has been making a very strange popping noise for the previous 2 weeks, occasionally when opening the lid and sporadically during use. I had NOT heard this noise in the previous 7 months of use. It is can be quite loud and is rather distracting. I have noticed it is particularly loud when lifting the lid after a long period without use (4-5 hours). It will then make this noise randomly during use ( approximately once every 15-20 minutes).

The noise became so distracting and irritating that I took it in to the Genius Bar but they have been unable to replicate the issue. They did reset the hinge assembly and clean the interior but said they could take no further steps to fix the issue (mainly because they don't seem to believe there is an issue....). They watched the below video but said the noise was "quiet" - something that I disputed without much success.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this? The fact I had never heard this during the first 7 months of use and its volume and randomness would suggest to me that this is not normal, despite Apple's position.

I have managed to capture a video of the noise below (this is while lifting the lid but is also the exact noise that I hear during use)

Any help/pointers would be appreciated!
