what can we expect from the second generation Air?

Price?

-45nm (honestly think that when it is 45nm that the current thinness of the macbook air will be a much better fit than the current 65nm).

-1 more usb
-air exhaust moved to the top back portion instead of the current being on the bottom.

Lop off the sides next to the keyboard, throw in a FireWire port, and the obvious updates (faster 45 nm processor, more RAM, larger HD/SSD, etc).

the best "feature" (more like a requirement actually) for the 2nd gen should be that it does not have core shutdown / overheat / fan issues. it should not require users to undervolt or clean up excessive thermal paste to get a cool & quiet machine.

Thus the 45nm, more efficient, much much cooler, much more efficient.

I would like it to get even a pound lighter (to around 2lb).. with everything else the same. Maybe using OLED screens. oh, yeah. and build in 3g chip. The 881U just adds even more to total travel weight.

I agree, the mba's keyboard is very comfortable I would like to see it in an aluminum color with the same materials instead of black.

No freaking kidding. I'm tired of the cut out area below the mouse pad digging into my hand when I use touch pad. The over all edges need a good file down.

I think the battery need to be removeable and a firewire port and 2 or 3 usb ports and avabliable 4gb ram upggrade with out destructing the thing and I would buy it immeaditly

So sorry if you missed the sarcasm, man... Conversely, you don't buy an Air just to be able to use 3 USB ports, either.

What I'm saying, really, is that if he wants all that (replaceable battery, a bank of ports), there are other machines on Apple's product line up that will fulfill his desires.

If you slap 3 USB ports on the Air, then that's another computer altogether. If you want all that - surely the Air is not for you. But there are other options in the lineup for him.

Just don't peg the Air into something that it's not.

Once u start adding missing features its no longer targetting its intended market for its intended use.

Not to mention itll be a step backwards as apple experimnting an making us think and force us to use our computers differently.

once you stat adding missing features, its just another macbook.

If thats thw case, apple might just wipe out the macbook range and have a air and pro range, one with the features of a air/macbook but in a slimmed down version.

if they intend to keep all 3 ranges of macbooks, i think the macbook air version REALLY just needs 3g wireless, longer battery time, possibly user replacable and that is all.

Maybe a 13 inch range and say 10inch range.

im stoked with this machine as it is, i would have liked a stronger dedicated 3d card for gaming, but thats me being greedy as i dont really play games, but would like the option to, but thats nit picking.

Improvements

In order of preference:

Four Musts:
- Don't make design changes that makes the current model look "old". Work on things that make it better technology now.
- Upgrade the processor as scheduled and as available so it never lags behind.
- BTO options for 2, 3, 4 GB RAM.
- SSD will be great when a bit larger capacity (80GB minimum, around 120GB would be ideal for now) and MUCH more affordable!

Improvements wanted:
1) 3G. I'd like to be able to use my AIR, wherever I am at no additional cost with my iPhone accounts at AT&T. We now pay $120 on each iPhone for unlimited per month. For that price, get me on my AIR at no addtional cost!!!! This would make the name make sense!

2) Keep working to make improvements to WHAT IS ALREADY THERE. I read lots of posts about improvements needed like thermal paste. These quality issues should be given the highest priority. My first AIR had a dead pixel, it was exchanged but that should not happen with today's technology and the price these things cost. The AIR should be running at 100%. If thermal paste issues, or whatever, is taking away ANY performance - there is nothing worse in terms of poor quality control. Optimize what is there first!

3) Remote disk sucks. With an Apple Airport Extreme N network, and working between a 17" MB Pro C2D and the new AIR, the remote disk setup got stuck, failed, just would not work. Good concept, if it worked.

4) Keep working on battery technology. I'm not sure I need to be able to remove it (getting use to using it as is), but keep making it last longer - again without ever adding weight or size to the laptop.

5) If possible, take away some weight & size. Another post mentioned the "extra" area on the sides of the keyboard & screen. I wonder if that can be taken away? I don't want to imply the AIR is to heavy or large, I just don't want any "features" to add to it's size or weight at all. Defeats the purpose.

If more ports (USB, FW, etc...) means more weight - I don't want them.

We don't need a built in drive on the AIR!
Please do NOT add it!

people who are complaining about adding drives/ports/whatever to the air should just be patient, until it is possible to build a macbook (pro) with the weight/thinness of the air.

the air is perfect as it is, the only thing I would like to see is a speed increase and 1440x900.

oh and while we're at it, get rid of that thick border around the screen. make it thin like on the macbook pros.
