Hi, I have macbook air and thinking about getting apple tv.

I use macbook air for general computing needs. When I want to watch

movies drams etc I just hook it up to 24 inch monitor via mini display - dvi.

With this combination said, will I satisfy with apple tv ?

I also have PS3 and cannot afford another HDMI to apple tv since ps3 is using

it.

thanks

I see you have both air and apple tv !

I wonder how you set those up? I really can't justify buying apple tv since

I already have portable laptop that can do what apple tv does..

What's the advantage of having both?

thanks !!:apple:

What's the advantage of having both?

I've got a MBP and an AppleTV, so it's still technically portable, like your MBA. I used to have it hooked up to an LCD as my main monitor, then would watch movies/videos etc using my computer on the LCD.
I bought AppleTV off someone at work because it was dirt cheap. The biggest advantage is that it frees up your laptop to still be used. I rarely just sit there and watch tv (apple tv... i dn't have cable so that is my tv) and I enjoy having my laptop to use.
Do you keep your videos stored on your MBA or an external/wireless hard-drive?

I keep music/video everything to MBA itself..It's filling up pretty quickly !

But, for that reason, I might just get external hard drive or just delete files..

I really hate wires going around my desk.. what do you think! I'm still

deciding thanks !

The Macbook Air is never going to cut it if you plan to house a large video library. Get a Drobo. One of the best add ons I ever purchased.

As for the Apple TV, it works great with the Macbook Air and is also a great investment. You will love it.

I just finished watching Drobo guide video. Looks great but I really don't I'm

gonna need that much of space. As of Apple TV, can you give me the advanta

ge of having both? thanks !

The Apple TV is basically an iPod for the TV that streams everything from iTunes. I personally see it as a big connivence instead of having to hook up a laptop to the monitor every-time you want to watch something.

It also offers HD rentals while iTunes currently does not.

I re-read your first post and it does seem that you are really on the border between benefiting from the Apple TV, so maybe you should head over to an Apple Store and check it out yourself. It really has a great interface.

A cheaper alternative to the Drobo is the DNS-323, which I have. It offers the options of having RAID back-ups OR you can just use both drive bays as wireless hard drives. I'm not (unfortunately) that interest in backing things up and just wanted more storage (I'll regret that one day) and it was cheap and easy to use. If you're going to outgrow the MBA and want to continue adding more audio/video, I'd recommend the DNS-323 - just like the Drobo, it'll be wireless so you don't have to worry about having wires around.

Thanks guys !

I decide not to buy Apple TV since there's going to be hassle getting one

connecting, and other issues..I will just hook up my macbook air as usual.
