I've been dealing with this issue for months now, im just wondering if anyone else has this issue. It doesn't happen every single time but sometimes multiple times a day suddenly it happens. When I log into my MacBook, it pops up asking me to enter my password for my email for the mail app. Ive tried deleting the email from the app and re entering it again but it doesn't fix it. Is there something else im missing here?

Just a thought, no promises, proceed at your own risk.

You might try going to the Internet Accounts preference/settings panel (if you're using it).
Then, delete the existing account (this DOES NOT delete your actual account "at the ISP level", only the connection between Mail.app and the server).

Then, RE-CREATE a NEW account with the ISP.

If you're on an IMAP connection, emails on the server will automatically flow back into the newly-created account.

Wouldn't hurt to back up your existing home folder first.

Doesn't hurt to give it a try. But this happens no matter where im at. I travel with my macbook so multiple different wifi networks. I could understand asking me when i first connect to a different network, but happens multiple times even on the same network

Microsoft live
Nothing wrong with live/hotmail/outlook.

Assuming you have used this for more than a few months, you will be using the IMAP protocol to talk to MS's servers. You need to change this. On MS's login web page, enable 2-factor authentication (if it isn't already). On the Mac, delete the account in Mail and add it again with "Microsoft Exchange" (not Other or IMAP) as the account type.

This is an MS change, supposedly in the interests of security because it forces 2-factor authentication.

On your iPhone, it is a good idea to change the account to type "Outlook.com" (if it isn't already).

Just wanted to update that this solution seems to have solved the issue now. No longer getting the password message whenever I log in. Thanks again

I have had the same issues with hotmail. Mostly following vpn use which always drops the account and i have to go to microsoft live and verify it was me. Switched to outlook.com and re-entered account via outlook. Hotmail account not really working any more, due to password issues.

VPN doesn't cause a password problem for me. In Apple Mail make sure you have created the connection to hotmail as a "Microsoft Exchange" type account.
