MacBook Air handle HD video?

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting the new MBA with a 13.3" Screen and the model with the 128GB Flash storage and upgrade to 4GB of Ram. I would just like to know if these specs would handle "iPhone 4 quality" HD 720P video editing in the new iMovie 11' just fine without overheating?

I did a test using a 1080p GOMtv (Korean) video... was about 700mb for a 10 minute video and 400mb for a 4 minute video.

Ran both without stuttering - and this was on the 11", VLC, full post processing.

I think it should be fine! But it never hurts to go in and test. I'll be testing Avatar 1080p in my local Apple store tomorrow on the 13".

Remember to try it on the 11" too! If the 11" can playback 1080p on an ACD I'm sold.

Watching video vs editing video

I too am interested if the MBA can edit HD video from my camera as well.

There are plenty of threads saying that folks can watch HD video but am trying to find a few videos on Youtube from people who have edited clips on their Late 2010 MBA.

Could someone that has tried to edit HD video using iMovie give their impressions

I'm considering buying a 13" Macbook Air 1.86 4 GM Ram but I would like to hear from someone who has used iMovie on theirs to let me know how it went.

Is it possible? (I assume so because the unit ships with iMovie loaded)

Is it painfully slow?

I intend to buy a new computer as a second/travel/couch computer and assume it would work for 90% of what I want to do with it but I can't seem to find any threads with people talking about their experience using iMovie on the latest MBA.

For my photography and videos I plan to upload to Flickr and YouTube and then transfer the files to an external drive once I get home to save space and back them up.

Editing on the new Windows Movie Maker is pretty sweet but A)as good as teh new WMM is, it isn't as slick as iMovie and B) there are no windows machines that can compare to the gorgeous form, screen resolution and light weight as the MBA for traveling or stuffing in a messenger bag.

Thanks for any feedback one could provide from their experience using iMovie on their MBA.

I have the exact spec'd Air you mention in your post and I just edited some 720p AVCHD footage from my Panasonic DMC-ZS7 and the Air handled it (via iMovie) with no problem at all.

In fact, the SSD is so much faster than a normal HDD, it rendered the video faster IMO than my late 2009 13" MBP. So far, so awesome with this little guy! It hasn't disappointed me yet.
