Good afternoon. I have read you for a long time and you certainly have a great forum. I am planning to buy a Macbook, as I need a good screen for my work and I think it is the best option. I work with applications like Photoshop (similar ones also work for me), with files larger than 4k, so I understand that I have to go for a model with 16 gb of RAM. The 8-core MacBook Air M1 (GPU) with 16 gb of RAM and 512 gb of SSD costs about 1,600 euros on the official Apple website. However, the Macbook Pro with 16 GB of RAM (although 256 GB of SSD) costs a few euros more. What would you advise me? Is the 512GB of SSD so important? The Macbook Air M1 with 7 cores (gpu) 16 GB of RAM and 256 of SSD costs a little less than 1,400 euros. Thank you.

iThink most users will be quite happy with the high end Air over the low end Pro.

Having bigger internal ssd has been always important in macs; proprietary design & wonderful performance.
AND... with this this new, so integrated architecture, perhaps it’s even more important. (Can apps run from external drive in M1?)
I also suspect that the fast, silent and efficient internal ssd could be used as cache data, almost RAM, at these speeds (read speed grows with ssd size).
I’m planning to get a M1 system, not sure Air or Pro, but saving up for the biggest ssd, or at least 1TB. Having external fast drives will be nice, but I’m not sure anymore it could replace internal in the same way.
I would sacrifice the fan and wouldn’t miss the smartbar at all, but 256GB is a little too small (even pro iPads offer bigger storage). Going 512GB can’t be a mistake; you will soon reach the moment you’ll find it was a good idea.

The MBA 16/512 would be my choice for your type of work and will preform as well as the MBP.

Air 16/512 - I have a MBP 16gb/1tb only because the Air isn't available at my local store and I don't want to wait 3-4 weeks to get one.
