It appears that the MacBook Air may have a hinge problem. Mine sure does, exactly as described, see http://bit.ly/8cut. Not sure if a lawsuit will fix mine, but if it gets noticed maybe Apple will respond. Anyone else having this problem?

This has been extensively documented, yet Apple refuses to admit a problem exists. Actually, let me correct that- they say they are "aware" of the problem, but insult the customer (as they did to me) and say that they "overextended the screen".

When I talked to an Apple "product specialist", she was not kind at all, and boldfaced lied about ever hearing about the issue.. can you believe that? She said "I have never once heard about this issue, and I take thousands of calls a day". I have never been so badly insulted by a company in my entire life.

If they do not fix mine, I will continue to call each day over and over. I have 86 days left on my hardware warranty and they damn well better cover it. I'd love to see a lawsuit... but I don't want cash or "compensation"... I just want my MacBook Air fixed! Shelling out $700-800 every 10 months (started using mine in June 08, bought around may though) of use is unacceptable and asinine.

Sorry to seem bitter, but I am bitter.

I've had this same problem too. I took it into the Apple store and they told me it would cost close to 800.00 to fix this problem. They weren't very cooperative and said it was my fault.

It started out with a lot of slope and then it started to crack.

I don't know if it's appropriate to post on here, but there is a law firm that is investigating this matter. If interested in the link please PM me.
